GROWPITO SIM MIX - FLOOD AND DRAIN - SOAKING AND WATERING INSTRUCTIONS

*Dry fibers may become airborne upon opening and emptying the bag. Please use a facemask as precaution, prior to soaking the medium. If skin irritation occurs, gloves may be worn.*

We use an EC meter for checking our nutrient levels. You can use a conversion chart to convert the EC in our instructions to your desired meter reading.

  1. To prepare the new Growpito Sim Mix for use, it must first be soaked/charged to ensure that the medium will achieve its full potential.
  2. Make sure there is enough solution to cover the medium with at least one inch of water. Add your grow nutrients at half strength and adjust the pH to the appropriate level for what you are growing. Add the solution to the Sim Mix in a large container. Let this set for 2-24 hours, making sure all the medium is saturated.
  3. Drain the water. (Save solution for compost pile) Do not worry about the pH of the soak water you drain off. From here on out, your plant and our medium will self-adjust pH and stabilize. You will see when you meter test your return water after your first flood and drain that the pH has stabilized.
  4. Remove the Sim Mix and gently squeeze the EXCESS solution from the medium, if necessary, without squeezing it all out. This can be done by hand-squeezing, by pressing the medium, or by using a centrifuge for a very short amount of time (about 15 seconds). If time allows, the wet Sim Mix can be put into the actual growing containers and allowed to sit and drain, naturally. The time needed will depend on the size of the growing containers.
  5. Fluff up the Sim Mix and loosely add to the container you will grow in. Fill the container to the top with Sim Mix. (We recommend 3 to 5-gallon pots, or 3 to 5-gallon smart pots.)
  6. Growpito Sim Mix is now ready for planting.
  7. Now you can set your plant. Make a small hole to accommodate the cutting or seedling and fill in around the sides with Sim Mix.
  8. Add water to a separate WATERING container and make a nutrient and enzyme solution. Add grow nutrients, at 75% strength, to the water’s EC/PPM, and set pH to the appropriate level for your plants. Using one liter per plant, pour around the main stem to encourage the roots to follow the solution to the bottom of the container. Once the plant is watered-in, use dry Sim Mix wool to top-dress each pot. A 1 to 1 ½-inch layer of top dress will stop algae from growing, will conserve water, and will deter pests from entering the medium.
  9. Wait 5 days, with no watering.
  10. After 5 days, flood the tray to 25% of the height of the containers. (Your reservoir should only hold enough water to flood the containers to 25% of the grow container.) Fill reservoir with the desired amount of water and add nutrients and additives to get the appropriate EC/PPM/pH for your plants, mix solution and flood the tray.
  11. Next, immediately drain or pump back the solution into the reservoir. No need to let the solution sit. (FLOOD AND DRAIN/EBB AND FLOW)
  12. After the solution is back in the reservoir, you will want to check the values of the return solution’s pH and EC/PPM. This will tell you how the plant has reacted to the solution given. Ideally, the pH and the EC/PPM will come back as close as possible to the original number. Adjust EC/PPM/pH as needed.
  13. Wait 3-5 days and repeat. By lifting the pots occasionally and watching the plants progress, you will get a feel for how often your plants need to be watered.
  14. Top-off your tank to the desired amount right before each flood and drain(your reservoir should only have enough water to flood the containers to 25% of the height of the container used), and adjust EC/PPM/pH.

Never let the containers dry out. If they get dry, the EC/PPM will rise to dangerous levels and the plant will be damaged.
